Former Trade Cabinet Secretary and Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) party leader Moses Kuria has officially declared his intention to contest the Gatundu South parliamentary seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
Kuria unveiled his candidature through a colourful campaign poster shared on his X account, adopting the slogan “Niamba Ya Ruriri”, signaling a return to elective politics in his home county of Kiambu.
The UDA secretariat confirmed Kuria’s registration as a parliamentary aspirant after he paid the Sh5,000 nomination fee, formally clearing the way for his entry into what is expected to be a highly competitive race.
The declaration comes two months after Kuria hinted at vying for the Nairobi County gubernatorial race, naming Makadara MP George Aladwa as his running mate.
In a separate announcement on X, Kuria shared a campaign-style poster featuring himself and Aladwa, under the slogan “Making Nairobi Work Again”.
Kuria, who founded CCK in August 2021, had previously dissolved the party in October 2022 to join President William Ruto’s UDA, but has recently revived CCK.
His return to elective politics follows his resignation as President Ruto’s Senior Economic Advisor on July 8, 2025 to pursue personal interests., ending a government stint that included roles as Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry (September 2022 – October 2023) and Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management (October 2023 – July 2024).
Kuria also has an established political base in Gatundu South, having served as MP from 2014 to 2022, first elected unopposed and later re-elected on a Jubilee Party ticket.
His early entry into the 2027 race is expected to intensify competition, as he seeks to reclaim the constituency he once represented.
Kuria’s announcement marks a significant moment in Kiambu politics, as he leverages both his national profile and local roots to re-establish his presence in the county ahead of next year’s elections.
